Canadian climber of note Gordon McArthur has teamed up with a business partner and fellow climber, Hunter Corrigal, to plan an innovative indoor climbing gym, Projects Mountain Centre. Slated to open in Cranbrook, British Columbia in early 2011, this community recreation facility will cater to both experienced and beginner rock climbers. Guided by a shared passion for climbing plus ample marketing experience, Projects Mountain Centre is off to a strong start already.
Projects Mountain Centre Mission
Projects Mountain Centre will act as a hub for people passionate about mountain life in a venue that captures and reflects the surrounding beauty and recreational inspiration that is prevalent in its region. Dedicated to providing a fun, safe and socially interactive form of alternative exercise, its emphasis will be on a state-of-the-art climbing facility that will maintain the areas’ most knowledgeable, experienced, and friendly staff to create a welcoming and enthusiastic environment for new and adept climbers alike.
The centre will give visitors to BC and the surrounding environs simple, easy access to the many opportunities available in the region for outdoor recreation by working in partnership with those who offer such services already.
What the Centre Will Bring to Cranbrook, BC
“For Cranbrook, we [McArthur and his business partner, Corrigal] think it’s going to change the city,” commented McArthur during a recent interview. Because of its uniqueness and its focus on adventure/fitness, the facility will offer an exciting form of exercise and community.”
Projects Mountain Centre will be an indoor climbing facility on a large scale, using expert climbing-wall design based on sound research. It will possess the ability to teach beginner rock climbers safely in a controlled indoor climbing environment, while also providing Cranbrook’s already growing and thriving current community of rock climbers with a gathering place for climbing training. As such, its aim is to set the standard for indoor climbing for all of BC.
“Because of this, it will not only benefit Cranbrook and BC as a whole, but also people all over the world,” said McArthur. “It will be a climbing destination for the beginners as well as world-class athletes.”
Look for Projects Mountain Centre in 2011
Projects Mountain Centre will have many levels and forms of membership, with a basic individual monthly membership estimated at falling in the $50 to $60 range. With a sound business plan already created, along with “keen” investors backing the project, Cranbrook’s new indoor climbing gym should be under construction in the near future, taking it one step closer to a reality.
